9th year 3.-6.11. | Bio Oko
Independence and freedom. Values that we place great emphasis on in today's society also because they were often suppressed and denied to people in the past. This year, Brazil celebrates 200 years since its independence from Portugal. However, the sovereignty of a country does not always entail free access to its people. Looking back over the two hundred years of independence, one cannot help but notice how Brazilians are still dealing with the specters of the colonial past.
How they have to defend creative freedom, freedom of speech, free life of Indians on their ancient territories or personal freedom often limited by gang violence in cities. Regardless of poverty, which limits the fulfillment of even the banal wishes, let alone dreams.
